and handouts. You will be required to have a 3-ring binder with 5 dividers
(warm-ups, notes, homework, graded papers, and handouts).
Expectations:
I expect you to come to class prepared, listen when others are speaking, keep
up with the reading, respect yourself and others, put forth your best effort,
and ask for help when you need it. You can expect me to be prepared, respect
you, be fair, listen to you, and help you when you need it.
Class Rules:
Follow all school rules.
Respect yourself and others.
Use appropriate language.
No ipods, phones, or other electronic
devices
Late Policy:
You are expected to be in your desk when the second bell rings. If you are not,
you will be counted as late. After being late three times in a semester, you
will receive a lunch detention. You will receive a lunch detention for each
time you are late after the third time.
Unit Homework :
For each unit, you will be given vocabulary words to define and questions from
each section of the chapter(s). You will be given time in class to work on the
homework, but may still have to take it home. Homework is due on the day of the
test and is worth 30 points.
Warm-ups: Each
day there will be a warm-up question on the board. You will be expected to
write the question, the date, and answer. Answers should be 1-2 paragraphs in
length. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what the
warm-up was and complete it. I will collect warm-ups at the end of each month.
Warm-ups are worth 30 points.
Tests: Tests
will cover the reading, homework, notes, class activities, videos, handouts,
and class discussions. Tests will consist of vocabulary (I’ll give you the
word, you give me the definition), multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions.
Study guides will be given out before the test and will be worth 5 extra credit
points on the test.
National History Day (NHD) Project- You will be creating a NHD project with the
opportunity to enter the regional competition. This will be an ongoing project
which will require research and work outside of class. I will give you more
information in the upcoming days. If you would like to know more about it now
please check out the following website: www.nationalhistoryday.org
Cheating/Plagiarism: If you cheat or plagiarize you will given a ZERO on the
test/assignment, given an office referral, and your parents will be notified.
This includes copying someone else’s homework, as well as giving someone your
homework to copy or giving someone the answers. You will not be allowed to make
up assignments/tests if you are caught cheating. If you have a question about
how to put information in your own words, you must come see me BEFORE the
assignment is due.
Makeup Work/Tests: If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what you
missed and to schedule any tests or quizzes. You have ONE WEEK to make up ALL
assignments and/or tests that you missed when you have an excused absence.
After one week, all missing assignments and/or tests will become a ZERO. If you
missed notes, it is your responsibility to copy them from a classmate. I will not
print copies of notes. If it is an extended absence, I will work with you to
create a schedule for turning in makeup work.
Unexcused Absence: If you have an unexcused absence in my class, you will be given a
lunch detention and will receive a ZERO on any assignments/tests that you
missed that day.
Due Dates:
Assignments are due at the beginning of class. Any assignment turned in after
my “last call” for assignments will be considered late. Projects are due at the
beginning of class on the day they are due- NO EXCEPTIONS! If you are absent,
you need to figure out a way to get the project to me on time- have someone
else bring it to school, email it to me, hire a carrier pigeon, etc. COMPUTER/PRINTER
PROBLEMS ARE NOT AN EXCUSE FOR LATE WORK! YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PRINT
ASSIGNMENTS IN THE OFFICE OR LEAVE CLASS TO PRINT IT IN THE COMPUTER LAB!

If you do not turn in your work when it is due, you may turn it in before 3pm
the following school day for half credit. After that, you must use a late
coupon.
Late Coupons:
You will be given FOUR late coupons for
the semester. You may use these to turn in work that is late for full credit.
You must attach your late coupon to your assignment. You will be given
opportunities throughout the semester to earn late coupons. If you lose your
late coupons, you will not be given new ones. If you turn in all assignments
and still have late coupons at the end of the semester, you may turn them in
for extra credit.
Typing Assignments: Anytime you type an assignment (sometimes I will require you to do
so), it MUST be in Times New Roman, no larger than 12 font, and double spaced.
Whenever using any resource besides your brain, you MUST include citations and
a works cited page/bibliography. Wikipedia is NOT a reliable source and I will
not accept it. You may use either MLA or APA format. A helpful website is: www.owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource
Grades/Grade Updates: My grades are based on total points. To figure out
your grade simply divide your actual points by the total possible points. I
will have assignment sheets available for you to track your grade yourself. Grades
will be updated once a week on Micrograde, please check it regularly. I will
also require you to print out a grade printout once every two weeks and have it
signed by your parents. I will not print these out for you. If you have a
problem with Micrograde, please see Mr. Littlefield for assistance.

At the end of the semester there will be a comprehensive final exam. If you
have an A in the class you will be exempt from the exam. I will let you know
