Assignments

Assignments turned in will be neat and complete.  They will include a proper heading.  If an assignment is typed, it will be double spaced in Times New Roman 12 point font with one inch margins unless otherwise noted.

Homework

Homework consists of unfinished classwork, vocabulary, reading, essays, projects and independent reading.  It must be completed before you come to class.

Independent Reading

You will be expected to read two hours each week (about seventeen minutes per day).  You may not include the novels we work with in class as part of your independent reading.  Sophomores will complete three book reports and juniors will complete two book reports to demonstrate their understanding of their independent reading.

Late work

Late work is accepted with a late coupon.  If there are circumstances that will prevent you from meeting an assignment due date, discuss it with Miss McMorrow well before that due date.

Absent work

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed, complete the work and turn it in.  The work is due three days after returning to school.  If you do not turn it in within three days of returning to school, it will be considered late.  Write absent and the date you were absent at the top of your paper.

Final Exam

The final exam will be comprehensive and will evaluate your understanding of the major concepts from the semester.  Students who earn a 95% or higher in the class will be exempt from the final.

Class Rules and Expectations:

1.      Follow all school rules.

2.      Demonstrate respect for others, yourself and others.

3.      Be prepared to learn.

·         Come to class on time.

Standing outside the door and rushing in after the bell has begun to ring will constitute a tardy. You must be INSIDE the door when it begins ringing to be counted on time.

·         Begin the warm up activity within one minute after the tardy bell.

Directions will be on the projection screen or the board. Do not wait for me to remind you to begin.

·         Bring required materials every day unless you are otherwise directed.

Required materials include a binder, pens/pencils, paper, class notes and handouts, independent reading material, and class novels.

4.      Participate appropriately.

·         Follow directions immediately.

When the person who is in charge of the class gives a direction, you are expected to comply as soon as possible without complaint.

·         Talk only when permitted.

Be aware of the situation since quiet talking is allowed in some situations and speaking to the entire group without raising your hand may be allowed in others. I will remind you once and expect compliance.

·         Use polite speech and body language.

Unkind teasing and impolite behavior is unacceptable.

5.      Keep electronics in backpacks during class.

If an electronic device is in use or is visible at all, it will be confiscated.

6.      Keep backpacks and bags off the desks and tables during class.

Tardy Policy

You are expected to be in your desk when the second bell rings. After being late three times in a semester, you will receive a lunch detention. You will receive a lunch detention each time you are late after the third time.

Academic Honesty
If you cheat or plagiarize you will receive a ZERO on the assignment or test, be given an office referral, and your parents will be notified. This includes copying someone else’s homework, as well as giving someone your homework to copy or giving someone the answers. It also includes texting or talking during a test. You will not be allowed to make up assignments or tests if you are caught cheating.
